Every summer, the same five issues account for almost every “AC not cooling” call we get in Islamabad — from DHA villas to Bahria Town apartments.
1. Low refrigerant gas. If your AC blows air but it is not cold, a slow gas leak is the most common cause. This needs a proper leak check before refilling, otherwise the gas escapes again within weeks.
2. Dirty filters and coils. Dust builds up fast during Islamabad’s dry months. A clogged filter forces the compressor to work harder and cools far less efficiently — this is the cheapest fix on this list.
3. A failing capacitor. If the outdoor unit hums but the fan does not spin, the capacitor is usually the culprit. It is a quick swap for a technician but dangerous to attempt yourself.
4. Compressor strain from voltage fluctuation. Islamabad’s summer load-shedding and voltage drops put real stress on compressors over time, especially in older units.
5. Incorrect installation or relocation. ACs moved between rooms without re-checking pipe length and gas levels often lose 20-30% of their cooling capacity.
If your AC has stopped cooling, a same-day inspection is the fastest way to know exactly which of these it is before paying for any part.
